Portfolio Site – Done….Finally

Yeah, I know. It’s about time I had an actual one up. Throughout my life as a designer and developer, I always had different views and visions of how my portfolio site would look like, how it functions, and why my portfolio designs won’t look as good as other designers in the world. Luckily, through lots of self-talking and advice, I’ve taken the belief that things in general should be simple. I would like to say there are a variety of perspectives that people tend to follow. You have people that likes complicated things, those who like visually appealing colors, and of course those that just want something that works.

What am I as a person?

I looked at my graphics, and then looked at my web designs, and clearly it conflicts one another. I personally love minimalistic sites, however, I love outrageous and colorful graphics. It’s hard for me to find a balance between those two extremes and so that’s why I’m always at a stand still when I’m doing a design. One side of the brain argues with the other. (Interesting thought for an article).

All in all, I’ve decided to make my portfolio simple, and let my work speak for itself. My main purpose was to have a simple portfolio site to show off my work in a minimal way, at the same time, giving functionality, and show my capabilities of what I can do as a web designer. As you can see, I put a lot of work into jquery scrolling, and making navigation easy, and unique. I added shadowboxes to display bigger sized images, and used my skills in typography (if I had any) to give some contrast with the bigger words, and different fonts.

(I also think it’s cool that all of this was done with just a page template in wordpress. Which means all of the sites content is being pulled from one wordpress installation…pretty neat).

I’m Content….

I’m happy with my portfolio (probably the best thing I can say about it), and I’m probably won’t design a new one in a long time (I bet in a couple months it will change and I’ll forget that I even said this). If I do, it would definitely hug more closely to the minimalistic side. I’m a strong believer in simplicity. It’s the tiny details in many simple works that people tend to forget, or people get astounded when they find them out.

I’ll be blogging frequently now that I’ve got my portfolio site out of the way. I’ll give you guys an update on my projects and life on my next post. Thanks for reading, and check out my portfolio while you’re at it.

P.S – Yeah, I’m missing that about picture. It’ll be of my workspace. Check that out sometime. Time to go.
